Setter Showdown

In the Spring of 2014, Louie Anderson joined forces with Kingdom Climbing to organize and run the first formal competition for route setters. The Kingdom Games were held at The Factory Bouldering, in Orange, California and were a huge success. Based on the positive feedback received after that event, Anderson decided to evolve the idea into a continuing circuit of events. Rebranded as the Setter Showdown, the circuit will present a handful of events each year, and will rotate to different gyms around the United States and abroad.
We first became involved with the Setter Showdown at our first gym, LEF Climbing in Lexington, Kentucky. The event is a great professional networking environment coupled with just enough competitive fire to encourage growth. We are excited to host the first Setter Showdown that is just for women as a part of the Symposium.

Our confirmed judges for the Setter Showdown and special instructors for Saturday are Christine Deyo (USAC Level 3 route setter and Head Route Setter at Austin Bouldering Project), and Jackie Hueftle (Co-owner of Kilter Climbing Grips, USAC Level 4 route setter, and Head Route Setter at The Spot Bouldering Gym.) Louie Anderson (Regular Clinician and Factory Bouldering Owner), Chris Shotwell (Director of Route Setting for Mosaic Climbing and LEF), and Blake Allen Green (Head Routesetter at High Point Birmingham) round out our group of clinicians.

Introduction to Route Setting

Danielle Goodspeed will be teaching the Introduction to Route Setting clinic. This clinic will cover safe work practices, skeleton route setting methods, collaboration, in depth forerunning, self advocacy, setting facility targets, and more. Danielle is a skilled climber and head route setter familiar with shaping a facility’s overall climbing experience.

The symposium is designed to help female route setters of all skill levels advance their careers. You can register today to attend in September. We’re transparent people, so the pricing is laid out as follows:
